Marietta's Varsity 8+ selected to participate in ECAC's National Invitational Rowing Championship
Pioneers will race 23 other schools on May 10-11

April 29, 2008
MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College Head Coach Kelly Harris and her Varsity 8+ learned on Tuesday (April 28) morning that the East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) accepted their bid to participate in the National Invitational Rowing Championship, which will take place May 10-11 on Lake Quinsigamound in Worcester, Mass. Marietta has earned the right to battle 23 other crews from the eastern coast in the national invitational.

Qualification came based on the school’s results at a series of events throughout the spring, including the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championship and the Knecht Cup. The Pioneers took sixth at SIRAs and fifth at the Knecht Cup. Marietta’s Varsity 8+ also finished second at the Mayor’s Cup, first at the Marietta Invitational, second at the Marietta/Purdue Challenge Cup and third at the Mid-Atlantic Division III Regional Championship.

A year ago, Marietta also qualified for the event in the Varsity 8+ and placed fourth in their semifinal. The fourth-level final was canceled because of weather, as were all of the Varsity 4+ races, an event that Marietta also qualified for in 2007.
