Women compete at Mid-Atlantic Division III Rowing Championships
Varsity Four takes second and Varsity Eight sixth

LEWISBERRY, Pennsylvania — The Marietta College women's crew competed at the Mid-Atlantic Division III Rowing Championships Saturday (Apr. 28) at Gifford Pinchot State Park. The Pioneers' Varsity Eight took sixth place while the Varsity Four captured second at the event, which was formerly known as the Atlantic Collegiate League Sprints.
The Marietta College women's Varsity Four rebounded from an emotional weekend at SIRAs to place runners-up in its event Saturday. The Pioneers, which featured sophomore Anjouli Dapice (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) at bow, junior Meg Foraker (New Lexington/Culver Academy) in seat two, Caitlin Piotrowski (Dublin/Dublin Jerome) in seat three, junior Kim Becker (Egg Harbor, N.J.) at stroke and freshman Lauren Talasnik (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) at coxswain, crossed the line in 8:44.7. North Park won the race with a time of 8:30.7. Johns Hopkins (8:52.08), Rutgers-Camden (8:56.06), Mary Washington (9:02.57) and Washington College (9:34.14) rounded out third through sixth, respectively.
The Varsity Eight also raced at the event. The shell, which which included sophomore Krista Tkacz (Egg Harbor, N.J.) at bow, junior Meredith Hay (Berwick, ME/Marshwood) in seat two, senior Jenny Sayles (Lakewood) in seat three, freshman Angela Sefcik (Garfield Heights) in seat four, freshman Katherine Racy (Lakewood) in seat five, sophomore Brittany Durand (Danielson, Conn./Pomfret School) in seat six, freshman Lindsay Barton (Swarthmore, Pa./Archbishop Prendengast) in seat seven, Amy Epling (Parkersburg, W.Va.) at stroke and Talasnik at coxswain, finished with a time of 7:46.92 and placed sixth. Mary Washington (7:00.2) won the event with Washington College (7:02.01), North Park (7:17.41), Bryn Mawr (7:28.62) and Franklin & Marshall (7:45.77) taking second through fifth, respectively.
The Pioneers will have a week off before returning to competition with the ECAC Championships May 12-13 in Worchester, Mass. |
