Lady Pioneers's Varsity Four wins at 13th annual Marietta Invitational
Five crews join Marietta for a day on the Muskingum River

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's crew hosted five schools in the 13th annual Marietta Invitational Saturday (March 31) afternoon on the Muskingum River, which featured a very strong current. There were four women's events; the Lady Pioneers competed in both the Varsity Four and Varsity Eight.

The Varsity Four, which featured sophomore Anjouli Dapice (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) at bow, junior Meg Foraker (New Lexington/Culver Academy) in seat two, Caitlin Piotrowski (Dublin/Dublin Jerome) in seat three, junior Kim Becker (Egg Harbor, N.J.) at stroke and freshman Lauren Talasnik (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) at coxswain, coasted to a 30-second victory in its race. The shell finished in 6:01.29, while Mercyhurst (6:29.95) took second, Robert Morris (6:36.30) was third and D'Youville (6:52.14) came in fourth.

The Varsity Eight, which had to endure a long afternoon, placed fourth in its race. The shell, which included sophomore Krista Tkacz (Egg Harbor, N.J.) at bow, junior Meredith Hay (Berwick, ME/Marshwood) in seat two, senior Jenny Sayles (Lakewood) in seat three, freshman Angela Sefcik (Garfield Heights) in seat four, freshman Katherine Racy (Lakewood) in seat five, sophomore Brittany Durand (Danielson, Conn./Pomfret School) in seat six, freshman Lindsay Barton (Swarthmore, Pa./Archbishop Prendengast) in seat seven, Amy Epling (Parkersburg, W.Va.) at stroke and Talasnik at coxswain, actually started three times before finally getting a clean race. North Park (5:23.36) won the race. Ohio (5:27.95) took second. Mercyhurst (5:30.53) was third. Marietta (5:32.36) placed fourth and Robert Morris (5:34.20) finished fifth.

The Lady Pioneers will take a week off before returning to racing. Marietta will compete at the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J., on April 14-15.
