Marietta women fall to Mount Union 76-44 in home finale
Lady Pioneers close out season Saturday at No. 10 Baldwin-Wallace

MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College seniors Stephanie Dowd (Willoughby/Willoughby South), Natalie Jackson (Circleville), and Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) played their final home game at Fenton Court Wednesday (Feb. 20) evening. The trio was recognized before the game for all their accomplishments and hard work throughout their four years as part of Pioneer women's basketball. The game, however; was controlled by the visiting Mount Union College Purple Raiders as it defeated the Lady Pioneers, 76-44. The loss drops the Pioneers' record to 5-18 overall and 2-15 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Mount Union improves to 9-15 overall and 6-11 in the OAC.
Marietta was led sophomore forward Jamie Beckett (Wooster/Triway) with 14 points and four rebounds. Pagenhardt scored 11 points in her final home game, improving her career total to 1,429 points. Jackson grabbed a team-high six rebounds in the loss.
Alicia Williams led three double-digit scorers for the Purple Raiders with 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Tessa Pohovey and Katie Crider each scored 10 points off the bench. Ashley Ross grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Mount Union silenced the Fenton Court crowd early as it started the game on a 17-8 run over the first 7:38. The Purple Raiders quickly pushed their lead to double-digits at the 7:15 mark of the first half. Marietta would cut the lead to nine with 3:28 remaining in the half but that would be as close as it would get, as the Purple Raiders went into the locker room at half leading 35-21. The lead would grow to as many as 36 in the second half, as Mount Union cruised to the 76-44 victory.
For the game, Marietta finished 16-of-63 (.254) from the field, 2-of-14 (.143) from behind the arc and 10-of-17 (.588) from the free throw line. Mount Union finished 28-of-55 (.509) from the field, 9-of-24 (.375) from three and 11-of-13 (.846) from the free throw line. The Purple Raiders controlled the glass 44-31 but lost the turnover battle committing 14 to Marietta's 11.
The Lady Pioneers will close out their season on the road as it visits No. 10 Baldwin-Wallace Saturday (Feb. 23) afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
