Marietta women top Bethany (W.Va.) 74-63 for second straight win
Pagenhardt pours in 32 points to lead Pioneers

Nov. 28, 2007
MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women’s basketball team is officially off to a fresh start under first-year Head Coach Jill Meiring. The Lady Pioneers defeated Bethany College 74-63 Wednesday (Nov. 28) night at Fenton Court, marking the first time since early in the 2005-06 season that the Marietta women have won back-to-back games. The win improves the Pioneers’ record to 2-3. Bethany falls to 3-3.

Senior guard Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) created problems all night for the Bison defense on her way to scoring a game-high 32 points to go along with six rebounds. This was third time that Pagenhardt hit the 30-point mark in her career. For the game, Pagenhardt finished 12-of-26 (.462) from the field, 1-of-3 (.333) from three-point range, and 7-of-8 (.875) from the line.

Junior guard Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) scored 14 points, 12 of which game from behind the three-point arc. Sophomore Jamie Beckett (Wooster/Triway) scored nine points and added 10 rebounds. Junior Nikki Driscoll (Bellaire) also added nine points and four assists.

Guard Kelly Goode led the Bison with 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Renee Brandenburg added 16 points, six rebounds and four blocks in the loss.

The Bison led by nine with 1:57 left in the half, but the Pioneers cut it down to two to make it 33-31 at halftime. The Bison came out in the second half getting the ball inside to Brandenburg and built their lead back up to six. Pagenhardt then put her team on her back to give Marietta its first lead, 53-51, with 10:04 left in the game. The Bison continued to have no answer for Pagenhardt, as the Pioneers slowly pulled away and secured the 11-point victory.

For the game, the Pioneers shot 24-of-53 (.453) from the field, 5-of-10 (.500) from three and 21-of-30 (.700) from the line. Bethany finished 25-of-63 (.397) from the field, 2-of-10 (.200) from three and 11-of-18 (.611) from the line.

Up next for Marietta will be its first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) game of the year, which will take place on Saturday (Nov. 31) afternoon, when it will play host to Ohio Northern. Tip-off is 3 p.m.
