Four Lady Pioneers named Academic All-OAC in volleyball
Senior Jessica Craig earns honor for third straight season

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) announced the 2007 Academic All-OAC volleyball winners Thursday (Nov. 15) morning and four Pioneers received recognition. Senior Jessica Craig (Uniontown/Lake) earned Academic All-OAC honors, while seniors Marissa Barnhart (Avon) and Paige Williams (Richmond, Ind.) and sophomore Becca Holzworth (North Olmsted) were given honorable mention.
It is the second straight year that Craig, a four-year letterwinner, received Academic All-OAC after earning honorable mention as a sophomore. Craig, a defensive specialist, played in 98 games and finished with 248 digs and 18 service aces this season. Off the floor, Craig, a tri-captain, holds a 3.87 grade point average as a biology major. A member of the Athletics Directors' honor roll and Dean's List, she is also active with Alpha Lambda Delta, Omicron Delta Kappa and the Student Alumni Council. In addition, Craig is a Resident Assistant for Residence Life.
Barnhart, a middle blocker, led the team in hitting percentage (.234), serving percentage (.945) and total blocks with 88, while finishing second in kills with 257. The four-year letterwinner totaled 247 blocks over her career, which ranks fifth all-time at Marietta. Barnhart, a tri-captain, also holds the school record for block assists in a five-game match with seven, which she set this season against Penn State-Behrend. In the classroom, Barnhart, who will graduate a semester early this December, maintains a 3.48 grade point average as an advertising & public relations major. A member of the Athletic Directors' honor roll and Dean's List as well as Kappa Pi, Barnhart is the head student assistant in the sports information department.
Williams, a right side hitter, led the Pioneers in kills with 286. The four-year letterwinner and tri-captain was also third on the team in total blocks with 51. The biology major carries 3.27 grade point average and is a member of the Athletic Directors' honor roll and Dean's List.
Holzworth, an outside hitter, paced the team in service aces with 39 while second in digs with 649 and third in kills with 245. Off the court, the two-year letterwinner maintains a 3.82 grade point average as a mathematics major, who is a member of the Athletic Directors' honor roll and Dean's List.
Marietta, under the direction of first-year Head Coach Ray Costa, finished the season 12-15 overall and 2-7 in the OAC. The Pioneers earned the eighth seed in the OAC Tournament and fell to eventual champion Ohio Northern in the first round.
