Marietta volleyball falls to rival Muskingum 3-1
Pioneers fall to 2-2 in the OAC

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team drops an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) match to rival and host Muskingum College Tuesday (Oct. 9) evening. The Muskies won 3-1 (30-22, 30-12, 26-30, 30-17).

With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 12-9 overall and 2-2 in the OAC. Muskingum improves to 16-7 overall and 2-3 in league play.

Marietta struggled offensively in the match, hitting just 0.061. Sophomore Becca Holzworth (North Olmsted) was the Pioneers' most active hitter. The outside hitter, who added 20 digs, tied a career-high with 15 kills in 64 attempts.

Junior middle blocker Sarah Vadaj (Streetsboro/Kent Roosevelt), who also finished with three block assists, and freshman outside hitter Kelly Schoener (Dublin/Dublin Scioto) added eight and seven kills, respectively.

Senior libero Casey Davis (Amanda/Amanda Clearcreek) led the defense with 22 digs, while junior setter Caity Shirk (Middleburg Heights/Midpark), who collected 28 assists, added 10 digs and three block assists.

Marietta will look to rebound at home Saturday (Oct. 13) afternoon when Baldwin-Wallace comes to Ban Johnson Arena for a 1 p.m. OAC showdown.
