Baldwin-Wallace denies Marietta Volleyball of upset bid, Lady Pioneers fall 3-1

Oct. 15, 2005
MARIETTA, Ohio - Every collegiate contest has its tipping point and today's (Oct. 15) volleyball match between Baldwin-Wallace and the host Marietta Pioneers was no exception.

With the match tied at 1-1 and the score of game three 25-25, the two Ohio Athletic Conference foes battled back and forth on a long rally. Each team had its opportunities to win the point, only for the other to make a diving dig to keep it alive. The Yellow Jackets finally got the kill to take the one-point lead and went on to win the game 30-28. They carried the momentum to win game four as well to take the match 3-1 (28-30, 30-24, 30-28, 30-21).

The victory improved Baldwin-Walllace's record to 18-7 overall and 4-0 in the OAC, while Marietta fell to 5-13 overall and 1-5 in league play.

Freshman setter Heather Faehnle (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) finished with a career-high 56 assists. The 56 assists is the fifth-most ever for a Pioneer setter in a four-game match.

Sophomore Casey Davis (Amanda/Amanda Clearcreek) was Marietta's libero this afternoon and finished with a team-high 25 digs. It was also a career-high for Davis.

Junior Ellen Doolittle (Louisville, KY/DuPont Manual) led the offense, who hit .299 as a team, with 17 kills, while three of her teammates also finished with double-digit kills.

Marietta will return to action Tuesday (Oct. 18) when it travels to Westerville for a 7 p.m. match-up with the Otterbein Cardinals.
