Lady Pioneers drop OAC opener in straight games to Heidelberg

Sept. 10, 2005
TIFFIN, Ohio - In the sport of volleyball, momentum can go a long way toward determining the eventual winner of a match. Heidelberg took full advantage of that Saturday (Sept. 10) en route to a straight game—30-12, 30-22, 30-22— victory over the Pioneers.

The Student Princes (4-2, 1-0 OAC) stormed out to a large victory in the first game of a best-of-five match and never looked back, sending Marietta (2-4, 0-1 OAC) to its first Conference loss of the season.

The Lady Pioneers struggled offensively all afternoon, finishing with a .028 hitting percentage. Marietta also had nine serving errors and 13 receiving errors in the loss.

Junior Jaymi Stephens (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) led Marietta with nine kills and eight digs, while freshman Heather Faehnle (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson), her high school teammate, finished with 18 assists.

Marietta will look to snap a three-match losing streak when it plays host to Bethany (WV) Tuesday (Sept. 13) in a non conference match up at Ban Johnson Arena at 7 p.m.
