| Marietta College primed for Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship
Pioneers will have 30 athletes competing in 28 events in Westerville
March 6, 2008
MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College track & field program is gearing up for this weekend's 2008 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held on the campus of Otterbein College. The action is scheduled to begin Friday (March 7) at 1:30 p.m. and conclude Saturday (March 8) around 5:30 p.m. The top three finishers in each event will earn All-OAC honors.
The Pioneers will be looking to move up the league standings at the event, which is the climax of the indoor season. A year ago, Marietta's women earned 26.5 points to place ninth, while the men collected 7 points and took tenth place. Senior Breanne Kosar (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) and junior Jessi Larrison (Batavia) have had the most success at the indoor championship, as both are two-time All-OAC performers. Kosar took second in the High Jump in 2005 and placed third in the event in 2007. Larrison finished third in the 500m Run in 2006 and second in the 800m Run in 2007.
Head Coach Derek Stanley has 30 student-athletes, 14 men and 16 women, traveling to Westerville to represent the school at the meet. Overall, a Pioneer will be competing in 28 of the possible 38 events. However, the Weight Throw, one of Marietta's strongest events, will once again only be an exhibition event at the Championship.
"The OAC Championship is always a great competition, and it takes a school's best performance to score well at the meet," Stanley said. "Our kids have a goal to perform to the best of their abilities this weekend. If everyone is able to set personal bests, some school records will fall and we will finish with solid team scores."
