| Pioneer throwers Kovacevich and Pallini named OAC Field Athletes of the Week
Both juniors break school record in the Weight Throw at Marietta Open #3

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) office released its weekly awards Monday (Feb. 25) afternoon and Marietta College juniors Tiffany Kovacevich (Strongsville) and Brian Pallini (Medina) were named the OAC Field Athletes of the Week.
For the third straight week, Marietta set a new men's Weight Throw record and each time it was a new mark from Pallini. The junior, who was also the OAC Field Athlete of the Week on Feb. 4, won the event at Saturday's Marietta Open #3 with a school record throw of 15.43m (50-07.50). He also took second in the Shot Put, another event in which he holds the school record, finishing with a mark of 14.09m (46-02.75).
Not to be outdone, Kovacevich also broke the school record in the women’s Weight Throw. She topped former teammate Rachel Forman’s record (13.22m (43-04.50)) with a throw of 13.49m (44-03.75). Kovacevich also went on to win the Shot Put with a mark of 11.19m (36-08.50). She now holds both the Weight Throw and Shot Put records at Marietta.
Marietta is back in action for its final home meet of the indoor season on Saturday (March 1). The Marietta Open #4 is slated to begin at 11 a.m. It will also be the last tune-up and qualifying opportunity before the 2008 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championship, hosted by Otterbein College on March 7-8. |
