Carpenter sets Marietta College record in the Hammer Throw at un scored Sparky Adams Invitational
Pioneers break 10-day layoff with meet at Baldwin-Wallace

DELAWARE, Ohio — Sophomore standout Derek Carpenter (Belpre) set a school record in the Hammer Throw for the second time in as many meets Saturday (Apr. 28) afternoon, as the Marietta College track & field team competed at the un scored Sparky Adams Invitational, hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College. The meet featured a wide array of schools and athletes of different levels.
Carpenter broke his own mark in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 147-02 (44.87m) and placed ninth in the event. The Pioneer women also had a successful day in the Hammer Throw. Sophomore Tiffany Kovacevich (Strongsville) and senior Rachelle Cole (Sherrodsville/Conotton Valley) both set new personal records in the event. Kovacevich finished ninth with a mark of 131-03 (40.0m), while Cole took 11th with a throw of 129-01 (39.35m).
Another highlight of the meet came in the women's 4x400m Relay, where freshmen Christi Tims (Olmsted Falls) and Sheena Spencer (Marietta/Parkersburg) combined with senior Brea Gardner (Sheridan/Somerset) and sophomore Jessi Larrison (Batavia) to finish fifth with a season's best time of 4:13.63.
Marietta will return to action Saturday (May 5), when a portion of the team travels to Athens for the Ohio University Invitational. |
