MC track & field opens outdoor season at the Coastal Carolina
Invitational
Pioneers have eight top 10 finishers at meet

CONWAY, S.C. — The Marietta College track & field program
began transitioning from its indoor to outdoor season this weekend
(March 9-10), when members of the team competed at the Coastal Carolina
Invitational. Marietta's women had a pair of top 10 finishers, while
the men had six athletes crack the top 10 in their respective events.

Freshman Logan Wern (North Canton/Hoover) ran
to a sixth place finish in the 3,000m run, crossing the line in
12:00.99. In addition, senior Jami Schneider (Portland,
Mich./St. Patrick) took sixth in the 10,000m run, finishing in 44:26.64.
Junior John Hull (Scott Depot, W.Va./Winfield)
was the highest finisher on the men's squad. Hull took fifth in
the 10,000m run, crossing the line in 34:08.38. Freshman teammate
Mike Siringer (Willowick/Willoughby South) was
sixth in the race, finishing with a time of 34:44.24. In addition,
freshman Zach Gay (Elyria/Oberlin) leaped his way
to a sixth place finish in the high jump, clearing 6-00.75 (1.85m).
Two other top 10 finishes came in the 3,000m steeplechase, when
sophomore Joseph Wynes (East Aurora, N.Y.) crossed
the line in 10:24.44 to take seventh, and junior Harrison
Potter (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) finished with a time
of 10:35.20 to place ninth. Junior Dan DeZordo (Louisville/Marlington)
rounded out the top 10 finishers with a tenth place finish in the
discus. His best throw was a mark of 143-04 (43.82m).
The CCU Inviational helped the Pioneers kick off their week of
spring break, which will end with the squad competing at the Washington
& Lee Invitational March 16-17.
