Pioneers complete day one of the Ohio Athletic Conference

Women's DMR breaks school record and places
fifth

ADA, Ohio — The Marietta College track & field team wrapped
up its competition on day one of the 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference
Indoor Championships Friday (March 2) evening on the campus of Ohio
Northern. The Pioneer women scored the school’s only points
on opening day, earning three points when its Distance Medley Relay
(DMR) placed fifth with a school record performance.
Baldwin-Wallace's women (24 points) hold a slim lead over Ohio
Northern (23 points) and Mount Union (22 points) in the standings.
In the men’s competition, Ohio Northern (24 points) is leading
the championship, while Heidelberg (22 points) and Mount Union (10
points) are currently second and third, respectively.
Marietta's DMR, which consisted of Randi Robertson
(Avon Lake), Jessi Larrison (Batavia), Sheena
Spencer (Marietta) and Brea Gardner (Sheridan/Somerset)
combined to shatter the school record en route to a fifth place
finish and three points for the team. The relay crossed the line
in 12:57.02, breaking the previous record of 13:06.12.
Four women competed in individual events Friday evening. Gardner
qualified for Saturday's final in the 500m run, finishing seventh
with a time of 1:23.05. Sophomore Leslie Pyle (Kansas
City, Mo./Pembroke Hill) finished 11th in the 55m Hurdles, crossing
the line in 9.67 seconds. Sophomore Melissa Schulte (Pemberville/Eastwood)
took tenth in the long jump with a mark of 15-10.25 (4.83m). In
addition, Senior Fizzy Ramsey (Danville, Ky./Boyle)
competed in the pole vault, but did not clear a height.
The Marietta men only had its DMR compete on day one Friday. The
relay, which included Harrison Potter (Rochester,
N.Y./Gates Chilli), Tim Roberts (Worthington/Thomas
Worthington), Corey Blattler (Barnsville) and Josh
Mickle (Madison), finished the race in tenth place, crossing
the line in 11:02.04.
The OAC Championships will conclude Saturday (March 3) when 29
more events will be up for grabs. Action begins at 10 a.m.
