Feb. 9, 2007
MARIETTA, Ohio — Freshman Christi Tims (Olmsted Falls) and junior John Hull (Scott Depot, W.Va./Winfield) each set school records to lead the Pioneers' track & field program to a sweep of its Marietta College Alumni Meet Friday (Feb. 9) evening inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. Marietta's women collected 121 points, while its men totaled 182 in the three-team competition, which included some Pioneer alums back in town for the Athletic Department's annual Winter Weekend. Bethany (W.Va.) finished second in the women's competition with 107 points and third in the men's action with 146.50 points. Charleston's (W.Va.) men took second with 170.50 points and its women were third with 86 points.

Tims, who was competing in her first collegiate race, took first place in the 300m dash, running a school record time of 46.62 seconds. She broke Jessica Haas' 2006 mark of 46.79 seconds.

Hull also ran to a first place finish in his record breaking race, the 5,000m run. He finished in 16:04.71, breaking Clark Spears' previous record of 16:06.12, which was set in 2005.

In addition to the two school record performances, seven other Pioneers set new personal records at the meet, which was run by those Marietta student-athletes that did not qualify for Saturday (Feb. 10) afternoon's All-Ohio Championships at Otterbein College.

Freshman Stephanie Williams (Marietta) won the 3,000m run with a time of 11:52.23. It was over 18 seconds faster than her previous best at Marietta.

Senior Jami Schneider (Poland, Mich./St. Patrick) cut almost a minute off her time in the 5,000m run, crossing the line in first place with a time of 21:14.63.

Freshman Sarita Dhiraprasiddhi (Hilliard/Darby), the lone women to compete in the triple jump Friday, set a new personal record with a leap of 32-01.50 (9.97m).

Three men set personal records in the 3,000m run. Freshman Corey Blattler (Barnesville) finished third with a time of 9:45.00. Classmate Mike Siringer (Willowick/Willoughby South) took fourth, crossing the line in 9:46.97. In addition, sophomore Joseph Wynes (East Aurora, N.Y.) placed fifth with a time of 9:58.20.

Freshman Zach Gay (Elyria/Oberlin) cleared a personal best 6-02.00 (1.88m) to take second place in the high jump. He also took second in the triple jump, an event he competed in for the first time at the collegiate level, with a mark of 38-09.00 (11.81m).

Marietta has 15 athletes competing at Saturday's All-Ohio Championships, which begins at noon in Westerville. The team will join back together Saturday (Feb. 24) when the Pioneers host their fifth and final home indoor meet of the season.
