MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College track & field team had a solid showing at the 2006 All-Ohio Division III Outdoor Championships Saturday (Apr. 15) on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan. The Pioneer men finished tied with John Carroll for eighth place with 33 points, while the Pioneer women placed tenth with 31 points. There were 21 schools, representing the OAC, HCAC, NCAC and UAA, at the event.

Freshman Michael Pankowski stole the show on the men's side, winning the javelin competition with a school-record throw of 55.65m (182-07.00). He broke Rodney Palmer's record throw of 176-06, which was set 19 years ago in 1987. Pankowski out-threw 23 competitors, including the second-place finisher by almost five feet.

Three records fell and two more were tied on the women's end Saturday. Freshman Jessi Larrison set a school record and won the 800m dash, crossing the line in 2:20.08. The previous record (2:25,60) was set by her earlier in the year.

The women's 4x100m relay, which included freshman Jessica Hass and sophomores Sinoski, Marissa Barnhart and Cayli Cummons, ran a 51.75 to break the school record and finished ninth.

The women's 4x400m relay, which featured Haas, Larrison, junior Brea Gardner and freshman Leslie Pyle, shattered the old school record, 4:21.5 (1988), and took 12th with a mark of 4:14.83.

Junior Fizzy Ramsey tied her school-record mark in the pole vault (3.05m/10-00.00) and placed fifth.
