DeZordo's fourth place finish in the discus highlights day one for Marietta at OAC Outdoor Championships

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Marietta College track & field team opened up the scoring portion of the 2005 OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Mount Union College Friday (May 6). Marietta's men currently sits in ninth place with six points, while the women have yet to score a point in the Championship.

Freshman Dan DeZordo (Louisville) had the top Pioneer performance of the afternoon, finishing fifth in the discus with a toss of 47.14m (154-08.00) to earn five points for Marietta. The toss was his second best of the year.

Senior Chris Taylor (Mineral Wells, WV) also picked up a point with an eighth place finish in the long jump. Taylor leaped 6.47m (21-03.00).

The other top finisher for the Pioneers on day one was Darkeevin Peoples (Akron), who ran a personal best (51.55) in the 400m dash prelims and placed 16th.

On the women's side, Janelle Rodes (Indian River, MI) set a new personal best in the pole vault, clearing 2.75m (9-00.92) to finish in a tie for 12th place.

In addition, Mallory Sinoski (Fairpoint) finished 10th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.12, a new personal best for the freshman.

Cayli Cummons (Parkersburg, WV) also had great finish in the 200m, finishing with a new personal record time of 28.64.

Action will conclude Saturday (May 7) on the campus of Mount Union. The Pioneers will look to improve upon their 10th place finishes from a year ago.
