OAC Outdoor Track & Field Tournament began Wednesday with Hammer Throw

BEREA, Ohio - The 2005 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships began Wednesday (May 4) in Berea with the men and women's hammer throw competition. The un scored event was hosted by Baldwin-Wallace, while the remained of the competition is hosted by Mount Union in Alliance this Friday and Saturday (May 6-7).
Marietta College had six athletes, three men and three women, compete in this year's hammer throw. Eric Finn (Shelby) was the top finisher for the men, placing sixth with a toss of 38.06m (124-10), while Dan DeZordo (Louisville) finished eighth [33.70m (110-07)] and Raj Sharan (Manchester, MD) took ninth [33.27m (109.02)]. Sharan's throw set a new season's best for the junior.
Rachel Forman (Heath) took seventh place to lead Marietta's women in the event. Her best throw traveled 37.45m (122-10). Alecia Benninger (Lakemore) placed ninth with a throw of 34.53m (113-03) and Amanda Stacy (Marietta) finished 12th [26.74m (87-09)]. Both Benninger and Stacy set new personal bests Wednesday afternoon.
The rest of the Championship will begin Friday in Alliance, where the Pioneers will look to improve upon their tenth place finishes from a year ago. Action gets underway at 4 p.m. with the pole vault competition. |
