MC track & field competes at the Marv Frye Invitational

DELAWARE, Ohio - The Marietta College track team joined 15 other schools for the 2005 Marv Frye Invitational Friday (Apr. 8), hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. Ashland University swept the competition, with the women totaling 253.50 points and the men finishing with 165.

Marietta's men earned 11 points to finish in 15th place, while the women did not score a point and placed 16th.

Top finishers for the Pioneers included senior Chris Taylor (Mineral Wells, WV), who placed third in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.88m (6-02.00), and Dan DeZordo (Louisville), who finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 43.05m (141-03) and eighth in the shot put with a toss of 13.56m (44-06.00).

Other Marietta athletes who finished in the top 15 included Clark Spears (Brunswick) (15th in 5000m, 16:08.58), Tim Roberts (Worthington) (ninth in the 400m dash, 59.15), Travis Barth (Worthington) (13th in the high jump, 1.73m), Chad Showen (Parkersburg, WV) (ninth in the pole vault, 4.11m), Taylor (15th in the long jump, 6.06m), DeZordo (12th in the hammer throw, 36.90m), Eric Finn (Shelby) (14th in the hammer thrown, 36.12m) and Tony Greece (Greensburg, PA) (13th in the javelin, 43.82m).

Two Lady PIoneers also finished among the top 15 in their respective events. Rachel Forman (Heath) took ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 38.80m (127-03) and Mallory Sinoski (Fairpoint) finished 15th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.94.

Marietta will return to action Tuesday (Apr. 12) when it travles to New Concord for the Muskie Dual Meet.
