Pioneer track competes at Division III All-Ohio Championships

ADA, Ohio – Four men and two women represented the Navy Blue & White at the 2005 Division III All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Ohio Northern Saturday (Feb. 12). Mount Union's men and Baldwin-Wallace's women each claimed team titles at the event, which featured the top 10-15 DIII athletes in Ohio at each event.
Marietta's Chris Taylor (Mineral Wells, WV) collected six of the Pioneers' 10 points on the day. Taylor placed in a tie for third in the high jump, clearing 6-04.00 (1.93m). He also finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 20-04.25 (6.20m).
Eric Finn (Shelby) equaled his personal best from a week ago in the weigh throw, finishing fifth with a toss of 45-05.75 (13.86m). In addition, junior Raj Sharan (Manchester, MD) placed ninth after a throw of 40-10.50 (12.46m).
Freshman Dan DeZordo (Louisville) rounded out the participants for the men with a 10th place toss of 44-02.50 (13.47m) in the shot put.
The Lady Pioneers did not score in the event, but received a 13th place finish from Janelle Rhodes (Indian River, MI) in the pole vault and a 14th place finish from Breanne Kosar (Wheeling, WV) in the high jump. Rhodes, a freshman, cleared 8-06.00 (2.59m) in the vault, while Kosar, also a freshman, jumped 4-10.50 (1.49m) Saturday.
The full Marietta team will be back in action Saturday (Feb. 19) when the Pioneers hold the second Marietta Open of the year in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. Action gets underway at 5 p.m. with the field events.
