13 performances highlight Pioneers' day at Marietta Open #1

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College men and women's track team had its first competition of the new year this afternoon (Jan. 22), as the Pioneers played host to the Marietta Open #1. The meet, which was originally scheduled to have about 17 teams, was cut to eight due to the inclement weather.
Senior Chris Taylor (Mineral Wells, WV/Parkersburg South) had an outstanding day in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. He began the day with a second place finish in the long jump, in which he leaped 21-04.75, and ended the competition with a first place in the high jump with a NCAA provisionary jump of 6-09.75.
Travis Barth (Waterford) took a share of second place in the high jump with a score of 6-02.00.
Anthony Banks (Colonial Heights, VA) took the top time in the 400m dash, crossing the line in 52.93, just ahead of a Malone runner.
Rachel Forman (Heath) set the school record in the weight throw, with a toss of 40-05.50 and placed sixth.
Eric Finn (Shelby) threw a person record 45-00.25 in the weight throw and finished eighth.
Dan DeZordo (Louisville) placed sixth in the shot put with a distance of 43-07.00 to qualify for the OAC Championships.
Janelle Rhodes (Indian River, MI) cleared 9-00.00 in the pole vault to set a personal record and placed third.
Alechia Beninger threw the shot 34-03.00 in her first collegiate meet to earn seventh place.
Joe Webb (Monessen, PA) finished seventh in the 55m dash with a time of 6.70, which was a personal best.
Tim Roberts (Worthington) placed seventh in the 55m hurdles, setting a personal best with a time of 8.99.
Brea Gardner (Glenford) finished third in the women's 500m with a time of 1:29.62.
Chad Showen (Parkersburg, WV) cleared 13-00.00 in the pole vault to set a indoor personal best and place sixth.
Overall, the men collected 77 points to earn fourth place, while the women placed eighth with 25.5 points. Ashland University won both the men's and women's crown with 234.5 and 262 points, respectively.
Marietta's next meet will be Saturday (Jan. 29) when Capital holds the OAC Relays.
