Marietta women open 2008 season with 6-3 loss to host Wilmington
All-OAC standout Carraher stretches win streak to 10 matches

WILMINGTON, Ohio — Marietta College junior Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) picked up right where she left off a year ago, winning in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) at first singles, in the Pioneers' 6-3 loss to host Wilmington College Wednesday (March 26) afternoon. The win improved the Quakers' record to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Pioneers fell to 0-1, 0-1 in the OAC.

Carraher, a first team All-OAC selection in 2007, has now won 10 straight singles matches. She also teamed up with sophomore Lauren McKiernan (Parkersburg, W.Va./South) to win at first doubles, 8-2. Marietta's third point came when the duo of senior Stephanie Dowd (Willoughby/Willoughby South) and freshman Kristina Reed (Grove City) won 8-6 at third singles.

The Lady Pioneers will return to action when they play host to Ohio Northern Friday (March 28) afternoon. Action will begin at 4 p.m. at the Beren Tennis Center.
