AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) announced the 2007 Academic All-OAC Women’s At-Large winners Wednesday (May 9), and Marietta College tennis players Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Davidson) and Katie Chadwell (Georgetown) were both named Academic All-OAC.

Chadwell earned Academic All-OAC honorable mention and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American third team honors in 2006. The senior finished 2-8 in singles, mainly in the third slot, and 2-9 at second doubles in 2007. The organization communication major, who also minored in art with a certificate in leadership, carried a 4.0 GPA into her final semester at Marietta. Chadwell was a four-year member of the women's tennis team and played basketball this past season. Outside of sports, Chadwell was active in the Student Alumni Council and Student-Athletic Advisory Council.

Carraher is a two-time first team All-OAC honoree. The sophomore finished the year with a 10-1 record at first singles and was 6-5 at first doubles. Carraher is a psychology major, who carried a 3.823 GPA into her fourth semester at Marietta. She finished the year on a nine-match winning streak with two of the wins coming against the three-time OAC Player of the Year, whose only league losses in her career came against Carraher. Carraher, who also plays basketball, is active in Psychology Club when not playing sports.

Marietta, under the direction of Head Coach Erik Pedersen, finished the season 2-10 overall and 1-8 in the OAC. The Lady Pioneers fell 5-1 to Baldwin-Wallace in the quarterfinals of the OAC Tournament.

38 women have been named Academic All-OAC and Academic All-OAC honorable mention in 2007. The women at-large winners consist of student-athletes from the sports of golf, swimming and diving, and tennis. The OAC faculty representatives selected the academic award winners. To be eligible for Academic All-OAC, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least her second year of participation in the sport.
