Apr. 25, 2007
BEREA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team concluded its season Wednesday (Apr. 25) with a 5-1 loss to top-seeded and host Baldwin-Wallace College in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament. The match had to be moved indoors because of weather.
With the loss, Lady Pioneers, who were the eighth seed in the tournament, finish the year 2-10. The Yellow Jackets, who are now 22-2, advance to the semifinals on Saturday in Mason, Ohio.
Baldwin-Wallace took a 3-0 lead in the match with 8-0, 8-2 and 8-0 victories at first through third doubles, respectively.
Marietta sophomore standout Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Davidson) capped off a great season by taking down Andrea Isaac, the two-time OAC Player of the Year, for the second time this season. Carraher, who finished with year on a nine-match win streak and 10-1 overall, won her first singles match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. It is just the second time in Isaac's career that she lost an OAC match and both defeats came against Carraher.
The Yellow Jackets, however, clinched the victory with 6-0, 6-0 victories at fifth and sixth singles. |
