named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American
Junior tennis player carries 4.0 grade point average

MARIETTA, Ohio — Junior women's tennis player Katie
Chadwell (Georgetown) was named an ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-American Thursday (June 15), when the women's at-large teams were announced. Chadwell, who was also named
Academic All-OAC and All-District this season, picked up third team Academic All-American honors.
The women's at-large program for Academic All-America includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, golf, gymnastics, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo.
Chadwell, an organizational communication major who is also working
toward minor in art and a certificate in leadership, carried a 4.0
grade point average into her sixth semester at Marietta College.
On the court, Chadwell saw most of her time at fourth and fifth singles for the Pioneers. She also played second doubles for most of the season.
When not playing tennis, Chadwell works for men's basketball coach
Doug Foote and is active in the Student Alumni
Council and Student-Athlete Advisory Council, where she was elected
the Vice President for the 2006-07 school year. She is also a member
of the Dean's High Honor List, Athletic Directors' Honor Roll and
Alpha Lambda Delta.
The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors of America), a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her Sports Information Director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports. |
