Marietta women extend win streak to three matches with 7-2 victory over Heidelberg
Pioneer men fall 7-0 to Student Princes

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis continued its recent hot streak and its climb up the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) standings with a 7-2 victory over visiting Heidelberg Thursday (Apr. 13) afternoon at the Beren Tennis Center.

With the victory, MC's third straight, the Pioneer women improved to 3-6 overall and 3-4 in the OAC. The Student Princes fell to 2-11 overall and 0-6 in Conference play.

The duo of senior Lauren Stermer and freshman Amanda Carraher continued their stellar play of late, winning at first doubles 8-0. They are now 4-2 together on the year.

Sophomores Justine Pagenhardt and Elizabeth Smith fell at second doubles, 6-2.

Freshmen Britanny Saunier and Kainani Lovette, who played together for the first time this year, won at third doubles, 8-6.

In singles competition, Carraher made quick work of her opponent, winning at first singles (6-1, 6-0) and improved to 5-2 on the spring.

Smith needed three sets, but she improved to 5-5 with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 victory at second singles.

Pagenhardt pulled off a 6-3, 6-0 victory at fourth singles to bring her record to 4-6 at singles play this year.

Junior Katie Chadwell remained undefeated at fifth singles and improved to 3-7 overall with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at sixth singles.

Freshman Allison Koprowski earned her first singles victory of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 win at sixth singles.

In men's action, Heidelberg swept the top five singles matches and to two doubles matches to shutout Marietta 7-0.

With the loss, the Pioneers fell to 2-7 overall and 1-7 in the OAC, while the Student Princes improved to 4-8, 2-3 in Conference play.

Both the men and women return to the courts Wednesday (Apr. 19) against Wilmington. The men will play at home, while the women will travel to Wilmington. Both matches begin at 3:30 p.m.
