Marietta women's tennis takes down rival Muskingum, 7-2, to even OAC record at 1-1

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team picked up an impressive 7-2 victory over rival Muskingum College Tuesday (Mar. 28) afternoon inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.
With the victory, the Lady Pioneers improved to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Muskies fell to 0-3, 0-2 in league play.
"I am very happy for the ladies," said Head Coach Kesha Bradford's, who picked up the first victory of her career. "We have been working hard at practice and learning to battle for every point, They did that today and we came out with the results we were looking for."
The three doubles matches were contested first, with Marietta pulling out two of the three wins.
Freshman Amanda Carraher, playing in her first collegiate match, teamed up with senior Lauren Stermer to win first doubles, 8-0.
Junior Katie Chadwell and Justine Pagenhardt also earned a point in third doubles; they won 8-5.
Sophomore Elizabeth Smith and freshman Allison Koprowski fell at second doubles, 9-7.
The Pioneers also won points in five of the six singles matches. Carraher was victorious in first singles 6-2, 6-1; Stermer took her second singles match 6-0, 6-2. Smith won at third singles 6-1, 6-1. Chadwell claimed a win in fourth singles, winning 6-4, 6-0. Pagenhardt picked up her second victory of the year at sixth singles, 6-3, 6-2. Koprowski was the lone Pioneer to fall in singles competition. She lost in a third set tiebreaker (7-5, 6-7, 10-8).
Marietta will return to action Saturday (Apr. 1) when it head to Ada, Ohio to take on Ohio Northern at 1 p.m.
