Lady Pioneers drop season opener to Ohio Dominican 6-3

MARIETTA, Ohio - The Marietta College women's tennis team kicked off its team competition Sunday (Feb. 20) inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center (DBRC) against Ohio Dominican. Two Pioneers picked up singles wins, but the Panthers pulled out the 6-3 match victory.
Ohio Dominican captured two of three doubles matches on the afternoon. Marietta's duo of Emily Simms (Kankakee, IL) and Erin Carlin (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler Area) picked up the Pioneers' first point with a 8-2 win in third doubles.
Marietta's singles victories came from Katie Chadwell (Georgetown) in fifth singles and Courtney Bruckner (Washington, PA/Trinity) in sixth singles. Chadwell won in straight sets (6-4, 6-2), while Bruckner came back from one-set down to win (4-6, 6-4, 6-2).
The Pioneers (0-1) return to action Thursday (Feb. 24) when they play host to Otterbein in their first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) match of the spring.
