MARIETTA, Ohio — Sophomore Brooke Borich scored 16 of her team-high 19 points in the second half to lead Marietta College to a 75-62 win over Hiram College Saturday (Nov. 28) in the opening round of the 31st annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot sponsored by BSN Sports. The Pioneers will face Rose-Hulman, 68-60 winners over Case Western, in the championship game at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Hiram (4-2 overall) held a couple of early two-point leads but a three-pointer from Borich at the 6:38 mark of the first quarter put Marietta in front, 7-6. The Pioneers would not relinquish the lead again.

MC quickly pushed the margin into double digits in the second half. The Pioneers scored the first six points in the third quarter and then gradually pulled away. The lead ballonned to as many as 22 points, 55-33, on a pair of free throws from freshman Corrie Burkhardt with 1:43 left in the third.
Hiram refused to go away quietly slowly whittling away at the Pioneer lead in the fourth quarter. Erica Johnson converted two throws at the charity stripe to pull the Terriers within seven, 69-62, with 1:38 left on the clock. But Marietta held Hiram scoreless the rest of the way to secure the victory.
Borich finished with four three-pointers and was 5-of-6 at the free throw line. Junior Morgan Liedtke had 14 points and a team-best three assists, while Burkhardt notched 13 points and seven rebounds. Burkhardt also had five steals.
