LEWISBERRY, Pa. – The Marietta College women's rowing team captured gold at the Neuweiler Plate Regatta Saturday (April 6). The Pioneers' varsity 8+ won, while the second varsity 8+ shell finished second in its race.
The regatta was hosted by Franklin & Marshall College (Pa.) on the 2,000-meter Gifford Pinchot State Park course.
Rowing from behind most of the race, the varsity 8+ crew pushed ahead of Lehigh University in the last 200 meters to win by less than a second. The Pioneers crossed the line in 6:46.73 just ahead of Lehigh's 6:47.50.
“The experience we have gained competing at the national level the past two years showed in today's race,” Marietta head coach Kelly Harris said. “We demonstrated self-confidence and trust in one another to win this race.”
Penn State was third (6:51.96) followed by Franklin & Marshall (7:07.20), Lafayette (7:15.16) and Susquehanna (7:41.21).

The Marietta second varsity 8+ shell finished second to Division I Lehigh University. Lehigh posted a time of 7:04.85, while the Pioneers finished in 7:10.46 followed by Penn State with a 7:19.70. Franklin & Marshall posted a 7:34.32 to place fourth.

Allison Fultz (Great Falls, Va./Langley) (stroke) and
Alycia Kime (Sicklerville, N.J./Winslow Township) (bow) competed in the pairs race and finished fourth. The duo raced without much preparation time together and rowed a solid race.
Penn State won the race with a time of 8:20.10 with Susquehanna (8:31.79) second and Lafayette (8:38.34) placing third. The Pioneers posted a time of 8:43.36.
