HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Marietta College women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to NCAA Division II University of Illinois Springfield Wednesday (March 13) morning. The Pioneers fall to 0-3 on the season, while the Prairie Stars are 3-3 overall.
The Pioneers wins came at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 singles.
Lauren Bush (Kent/Theodore Roosevelt) and
Mollee Brown (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) defeated Cassidy Burkardt and Alex Kinzinger, 8-1, in doubles. Freshman
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) posted a 7-6 (7-5) and 6-4 win over Burkardt in singles.
In the other two doubles matches Meghan Zumbahlen and Brooke Tweedy downed
Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat) and Seals at No. 1, 8-0, while Faith Hook and Janasha Prabhu notched an 8-6 win at No. 2 against
Kelsey Jeffrey (The Plains/Athens) and
Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville).
Zumbahlen defeated Gisser 6-1 and 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Tweedy blanked Turner at No. 2, 6-0 and 6-0, while Hook beat Bush 8-0 in a pro-set at No. 3 singles.
At No. 4, Prabhu beat Brown, 8-1. Kinzinger defeated Turner at No. 6, 6-2 and 6-0.
