GENEVA, N.Y. – For the second time in as many days, the No. 9 ranked Marietta College women's rowing team went head to head with No. 3 ranked William Smith College. Sunday (April 1) morning the two schools, along with the Rochester Institute of Technology, raced on Seneca Lake. [Results]

In the 2,000-meter varsity 8+ race, William Smith crossed the line in 7:18.69 for the victory. Racing under choppy conditions, the race was tight through the first 1,400 meters, but the Herons were able to build a lead over the final 600 meters. Marietta finished second with a time of 7:28.25, while RIT was third (7:51.46).

Marietta's lineup for the varsity 8+ race was coxswain Megan Oxley (Clarksburg, N.J./Allentown), stroke Abigail Klicker (Avalon Borough, Pa./Northgate), Erika Ellis, Kelli Barnette (Parkersburg, W.Va./South), Stephanie Meinert (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area), Ricci Davis (Marietta/Marietta), Trisha Wendel (Chagrin Falls/Kenston), Bridget Dean (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and bow Alyse McNeill (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area).

The Pioneers defeated William Smith in the second varsity 8+ race. Marietta finished in 7:49.96 ahead of William Smith's novice boat (7:56.94) and second varsity shell (8:02.39). RIT placed fourth with a time of 8:09.55.

Marietta sat coxswain Laura Sterzinger (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic), stroke Taryn Wilson (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa), Alycia Kime (Sicklerville, N.J./Winslow Township), Kelly Moses (Lyndhurst/Brush), Anja Curwen (Carlisle Pa./St. Bouaventure), Erika Gill (Copley/Copley), Shannon Johnston (Arlington, Va./Yorktown), Katherine Tedesco (Upper Arlington/Upper Arlington) and bow Hannah Platt (Potomac, Md./Walt Whitman) in the second varsity 8+ race.

Marietta is back in action on Saturday (April 7) against Franklin & Marshall College in Lewisberry, Pa.
