INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The NCAA office announced the 55 Division III Baseball Tournament participants Monday (May 16) morning. The 55 institutions will compete in eight regional tournaments, including the
Mideast Regional Tournament set for May 18-22 at Don Schaly Stadium.
Heading the seven-team tournament in Marietta, Ohio, is top-seeded Marietta College (38-3), who captured the Ohio Athletic Conference's automatic bid after winning the OAC Tournament. Heidelberg University (33-11), also representing the OAC, earned the second seed after receiving one of 15 at-large bids into the national tournament.
Adrian College (31-9) will be the third seed after it won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's regular season crown. Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament champion Franklin College (29-12) is the fourth seed, while Frostburg State University (28-13), the Capital Athletic Conference tournament winner, is the fifth seed.
Case Western Reserve University (30-13) earned one of two national Pool B bids and will represent the University Athletic Association as the sixth seed. The seventh seed belongs to Penn State University-Altoona (28-11), winners of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament.
Fourth-seeded Franklin and fifth-seeded Frostburg State will open Mideast Regional action at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday (May 18). Adrian, the third seed, will battle sixth-seeded Case Western Reserve at 1 p.m. Second-seeded Heidelberg will take on seventh-seeded Penn State-Altoona at 4:30 p.m. Top-seeded Marietta will then close out day one against the loser of the Franklin vs. Frostburg State game. First pitch of game four is scheduled for 8 p.m.
