FAIRFAX STATION, Va. — The Marietta College women's varsity 8+ captured the Petite Final of the 2011 Occoquan Sprints Sunday (April 3) afternoon at the Occoquan Reservoir. [

Alyse McNeill (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) to a narrow victory over regional rival Mary Washington University the second-level final. Marietta crossed the line with a winning time of 8:02.3, while Mary Washington followed in 8:03.01 and Duquesne took third by finishing in 8:04.24.
The Pioneers began the day with a third place finish in their opening heat, which was won by St. Joseph's University who covered the course in 8:02.4. Loyola College placed runner-up with a time of 8:20.61, while Marietta followed in third with a time of 8:31.45.
University of Dayton won the Grand Final, which featured all Division I schools, with a time of 7:26.6.

Liz Luckenbaugh (Akron/Our Lady of the Elms), also rowed Sunday and placed fifth in its heat-only event with a time of 9:11.31.
The Pioneers are back in action April 9-10 when they compete at the Knecht Cup in Camden, N.J.
