Marietta volleyball picked sixth in OAC Preseason Coaches Poll

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team was voted sixth in the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Preseason Coaches Poll, released by the OAC office Tuesday (Aug. 17) morning.

OAC Regular Season Champion Heidelberg University sat atop the poll with 79 points and seven first place votes. OAC Tournament Champion Ohio Northern University was close behind with 74 points and the other three first place votes. The two remaining OAC Tournament semifinalists, Otterbein University and University of Mount Union, followed in third and fourth with 59 points and 57 points, respectively.

Only four points separated the fifth through eighth place teams. Capital University was picked fifth with 40 points. Marietta College selected sixth with 39 points. John Carroll University sat seventh with 39 points. Muskingum University was eighth with 36 points.

Baldwin-Wallace College and Wilmington College rounded out the poll with 19 points and nine points, respectively.

Keyed by the return of six letterwinners and four starters, the young Marietta College volleyball team looks to continue its improvement as a program in 2010. The Pioneers report to preseason camp Tuesday afternoon and begin their season against visiting Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) on Sept. 1. Marietta's annual River City Tournament will follow Sept. 3-4.
