Women's rowing opens season on Canal 54

PALM BAY, Fla. — The Marietta College women's rowing team began its 2010 spring season this weekend by competing in the Keuper Cup Saturday (March 13) on Canal 54. The Pioneers went head-to-head with Temple and host Florida Tech. Marietta sent shells onto the water in three events at the Keuper Cup, the Varsity 8 (/)+, Varsity 4+ and Freshmen/Novice 4+. The Freshmen/Novice 4+, which featured freshman coxswain Jennifer Kachel (Woodsfield, Linsley), freshman stroke Abigail Klicker (Avalon Borough, Pa., Northgate), freshman Christina Beltran-Revilla (Pittsburgh, Pa., Fox Chapel Area), junior Ariel Stadden (Cleveland, James F. Rhodes) and sophomore bow Emily Woolson (Mount Vernon, Mount Vernon), opened the day with a victory over two Temple boats. The Pioneers crossed the line in a winning time of 7:57.0. The Owls followed in 8:25.0 and 8:42.6.

Marietta's Varsity 4+, which sat freshman coxswain Amey Fink (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin), stroke Klicker, junior Brooke Exley (Phoenixville, Pa., Phoenixville Area), Stadden and bow Beltran-Revilla, finished runner-up to Temple on Saturday. Temple covered the course in 7:57.1, while Marietta crossed the line in 8:03.9.

In the featured Varsity 8 (/)+ race, Temple claimed first place with a time of 6:32.8, while Florida Tech took second in 6:43.0. Marietta, who featured senior coxswain Lauren Talasnik (Mays Landing, N.J., Oakcrest), sophomore stroke Kelli Barnette (Parkersburg, W.Va., South), junior Elizabeth Bratton (Philadelphia, Pa., St. Basil Academy), sophomore Bridget Dean (Rochester, Minn., Mayo), freshman Trisha Wendel (Chagrin Falls, Kenston), freshman Katelyn Hilderbrand (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny), sophomore Jessica Amato (Shelby, Shelby), freshman Kelly Moses (Lyndhurst, Brush) and freshman Alyse McNeill (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler Area), finished third after crossing the line in 6:45.0

The Pioneers are back in action Sunday (March 21) when they play host to the Boilermakers for the annual Marietta/Purdue Challenge Cup.
