NEW ORLEANS, La. — The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the Women's Division III All-Academic Track and Field Team Tuesday (July 7), and three Marietta College student-athletes—freshmen
Kim Keesler (Chagrin Falls/Chagrin Falls) (Chagrin Falls),
Corryn Muench (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) and 2009 graduate
Tiffany Kovacevich (Strongsville)—received recognition.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event. 274 student-athletes representing 91 Division III colleges and universities made up the 2009 All-Academic team.
Keesler, a pole-vaulter, made an immediate impact on the team. She topped the previous school record in the indoor event by clearing 3.35m (10-11.75). Outdoors, Keesler set another school record, vaulting 3.50m (11-05.75), which matched the provisional qualifying standard.
In the classroom, Keesler, a Biology major, maintained a 3.45 GPA during her freshman year.
Muench also made an immediate impact on the team but it came on the track. In her first year as a Pioneer, she helped the 4x400 Meter Relay team set a new school record and meet the provisional qualifying standard with a time of 3:54.98.
Off the track, Muench, who also plays soccer, maintained a 3.30 GPA during her freshman year as an Advertising and Public Relations major.
Kovacevich is no stranger to success. She has won numerous awards in her four years at Marietta, including the Clyde Lamb Award and All-OAC honors. She holds the school record in the indoor Shot Put (11.82m), indoor Weight Throw (14.84m), outdoor Shot Put (12.16m) and outdoor Hammer Throw (45.33m). Kovacevich's mark in the Hammer Throw was a provisional qualifying throw.
