MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College freshman Jayshon Irvin (Vero Beach, Fla./Sebastian) knows he could have performed better, but he'll take a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter dash and the All-American status that he earned at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship Saturday (May 23) in Marietta, Ohio.

"It could have been better, but I'm satisfied with it. My start could have still been better," said Irvin, who was the eighth seed in the final. "I was more nervous today than I was for the trial yesterday. I was thinking about not false starting and wanting to live up to my own expectations of getting in the top four."

Irvin has run faster this season with a 10.71 earlier this spring. That time would have given him a third-place finish. "I can improve my time a lot. I'm going to work on my starts back home with my high school coach."

Springfield (Mass.) College junior Stephen Headley finished first in 10.51, followed by Salisbury (Md.) University junior Delannie Spriggs in 10.70 and Methodist (N.C.) University senior Tazz Petty in 10.76.
