Three Marietta men's basketball players named All-OAC honorable mention

Creasap, Halter and Knab all awarded league honor in 2008-09

Freshman Trevor Halter was one of three Pioneers to earn All-OAC in 2009
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio —The success of this year's Marietta College men's basketball team can, in large part, be linked to the performance of three key players—senior Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Northwestern), freshman Trevor Halter (Malvern) and freshman Kevin Knab (Lakewood). The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) coaches recognized the trio for their efforts on Tuesday (March 3) morning, naming them All-OAC honorable mention in 2008-09. [2008-09 All-OAC Award Winner (.pdf)]

Creasap, Halter and Knab averaged nearly 48% of the scoring for second-year Head Coach Jon VanderWal's club, which finished the year 12-14 overall and placed sixth with a 7-11 record in the final OAC standings. The Pioneers posted the most wins since the 2001-02 team went 13-13. VanderWal also led Marietta to its first OAC Tournament appearance since the league changed to the eight-team format in 2003-04.

Creasap, now a three-time All-OAC honorable mention recipient, battled through injury and had another solid season this winter. The captain, who scored a season-best 19 points in a win over Adrian (Mich.), ranked third on the team after averaging 9.0 points in 23 games. Seeing extended time at point guard, Creasap also averaged 1.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists, while hitting 45-of-130 (34.6%) from beyond the arc. He finished his career with 1,105 points, which placed him 20th on the Pioneers' all-time scoring list. Creasap graduates as the Pioneers' all-time leader in three different categories. He is the school record holder in three-point field goals made (262) and attempted (648) in a career as well as the all-time leader in three-point field goal percentage (40.4%). Creasap also holds a share of the single-game record for free throw percentage, hitting 10-of-10 during a game against Waynesburg (Pa.) in 2007-08.

Halter was one of just two Marietta players to participate in all 26 games. The wing scored a team-best 371 points, which tied him with Knab for the team's highest scoring average (14.3) this season. It is the first time that the Pioneers had a freshman pace the team in scoring since Jesse DuPerow averaged a team-leading 12.8 points during the 1998-99 season. Halter, who also averaged 4.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.8 blocks, was the team's leading scorer in 11 games. He reached double figures in 24-of-26 games and scored a season-high 22 points in a win over Otterbein.

Knab, like Halter, averaged a team-best 14.3 points, but played in just 19 games due to injury; he broke his hand on Marietta's opening weekend and missed the next seven games. Knab, however, proved to be one of the top players in the OAC when he was on the floor. The post player, who also contributed an average of 5.1 rebounds, scored double figures in 14 games and finished with a season-best 26 points against Wilmington. Knab broke the Pioneers' single-season school record for field goal percentage after shooting 68.7% (103-of-150) this year.
