AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) announced the 2009 Academic All-OAC Baseball winners Wednesday (May 20) morning, and Marietta College junior
Chris Beatty (Seven Fields, Pa./Hampton) (Seven Fields, Pa./Hampton) and sophomore
Britt Meador (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) (Columbus/Kilbourne) have been named Academic All-OAC honorable mention.
26 players from the Conference have been named Academic All-OAC and Academic All-OAC honorable mention in 2007. The academic award winners are selected by the OAC faculty athletics representatives. To be eligible for Academic All-OAC, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least her second year of participation in the sport.
Beatty, who was also named All-OAC first team and Academic All-OAC honorable mention, led the Etta Express with 12 home runs and 56 RBI, while ranking second on the squad with a .373 batting average in 2009. The backup catcher added three triples and 10 doubles to go along with 42 runs scored. Beatty, a member of the 2009 OAC All-Tournament Team, paced the team with 18 multiple-RBI games and ranked second with 18 multiple-hit games.
Beatty, a Management major, carried a 3.28 grade point average into his sixth semester at Marietta.
Meador, an outfielder, was limited to just 11 games because of injury in 2009. The sophomore compiled six hits, seven runs scored and three RBI in 31 at bats for the Etta Express.
Meador, a Petroleum Engineering major, carried a 3.91 grade point average into the spring semester.
Marietta, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Brian Brewer, finished the spring 32-17, taking home runner-up in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular season, OAC Tournament and Mideast Regional Tournament.
