ALLIANCE, Ohio — The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) released its 2009 All-Mideast Region teams on Tuesday (May 19) afternoon and three Marietta College players received the regional honor. Senior third baseman
Cameron Cimino (Boardman/Boardman) (Boardman) and junior designated hitter
Chris Beatty (Seven Fields, Pa./Hampton) (Seven Fields, Pa./Hampton) earned All-Mideast Region first team honors, while senior pitcher
Chris Stewart (Dublin/Dublin Coffman) (Dublin/Coffman) was named to the All-Mideast Region third team.
Marietta, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Brian Brewer, finished the spring 32-17, taking home runner-up in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular season, OAC Tournament and Mideast Regional Tournament.
Cimino, the 2009 Jack Rafeld Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Player of the Year, had an outstanding senior campaign. He became the 21st Pioneer to earn the prestigious league honor. The 2008 All-Mideast Region second team selection also received All-OAC first team honors for the second straight season. In 49 games, Cimino paced Marietta in batting average (.443), hits (81), doubles (19), triples (3), runs scored (57) and multiple-hit games (24). He finished second in home runs (11), RBI (47) and multiple-RBI games (15). Cimino was also named to the OAC and Mideast Regional All-Tournament teams in 2009.
Beatty, who was also named All-OAC first team and Academic All-OAC honorable mention, led the Etta Express with 12 home runs and 56 RBI, while ranking second on the squad with a .373 batting average in 2009. The backup catcher added three triples and 10 doubles to go along with 42 runs scored. Beatty, a member of the 2009 OAC All-Tournament Team, paced the team with 18 multiple-RBI games and ranked second with 18 multiple-hit games.
Stewart, a two-time All-OAC honorable mention pick, was Marietta's main arm out of the bullpen this spring. He finished with a team-best 21 appearances and made four starts. Stewart also posted a team-leading 6-2 record and 2.66 ERA in 47 1/3 innings of work. The left-hander struck out 33, including five in a start against Waynesburg (Pa.), which matched a career high.
