Pioneer men fall at Wilmington 80-53
Marietta will host first-place Capital Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio — A sluggish start ended up costing the Marietta College men's basketball team as it fell to host Wilmington College, 80-53, Saturday (Feb. 2) afternoon. The loss drops Marietta's record to 6-13 overall and 2-10 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Wilmington improves to 12-7 overall and 7-5 in the OAC.
Junior Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Northwestern) led the Pioneers with 14 points, hitting 4-of-7 (.571) from behind the arc. Adam Rockhold (Olmsted Falls) scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Jay Chadwell (Georgetown) added 10 points and three assists in the loss.
Wilmington also had three players in double figures and were led by Brandon Rogers with 15 points. R.J. Brown scored 14 points, while Nick Berter scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds.
Marietta struggled early and it never held a lead over the hometown Quakers. Wilmington opened up a double-digit lead, 17-6, only seven minutes into the game. The Pioneers shot only 7-of-24 (.292) and scored 17 points in the first half, while Wilmington exploded for 41. The Quakers would stretch their lead to as many as 34 in the second half and cruised to the 27-point victory.
Marietta finished 20-of-48 (.417) from the field, 6-of-17 (.353) from behind the arc and 7-of-15 (.467) from the free throw line. Wilmington went 34-of-56 (.607) from the field, 6-of-11 (.545) from three and 6-of-11 (.545) from the free throw line. Wilmington controlled the glass 32-24 and committed only 13 turnovers to Marietta's 20.
Marietta will host first place Capital University on Wednesday (Feb. 6) night at Fenton Court. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. |
