Pioneers struggle in tough loss at John Carroll
No Marietta player reaches double figures in defeat

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Marietta College men's basketball team continued its trek through a difficult Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) schedule with an 86-45 loss to host John Carroll University Saturday (Jan. 12) afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers' record to 4-10 overall and 0-6 in the OAC. The Blue Streaks improved to 6-6, 3-3 in league play.

John Carroll's defense limited Marietta to just 13-of-45 (.289) from the field, including 7-of-21 (.33) from long range, and forced 25 turnovers. The Blue Streaks, meanwhile, went 29-of-77 (.377) from the floor, including 9-of-21 (.429) from deep. John Carroll dominated the boards, out rebounding Marietta 53-40. The Pioneer made just six shots from inside the three-point arc in the loss.

No Marietta player reached double figures in the scoring column. Juniors Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Triway) and Andrew Good (Bexley) led the way with eight points, while freshman Jordan Cox (West Union) added seven. Senior Adam Rockhold was held to just six points; he did collect a game-high nine boards.

Rudy Kirbus came off the bench to lead John Carroll with 19 points and eight rebounds in 17 minutes. Donte Ledwell added 12 points, while Maurice Haynes had 11 points and eight boards.

Marietta is back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 16) evening when Mount Union College visits Ban Johnson Arena. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.

GAME NOTE: Saturday's doubleheader with John Carroll was televised on SportsTime Ohio. The women's game can be seen tonight at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 12 p.m. The men's game will air at 9 p.m. tonight and then at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
