Marietta men fall to host Ohio Northern in OAC opener

ADA, Ohio — The Marietta College men’s basketball team opened its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) schedule with a 98-44 loss at Ohio Northern University Saturday (Dec. 1) afternoon at the ONU Sports Center. The Polar Bears improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while the Pioneers fell to 2-4, 0-1 in league play.
Marietta, who trailed 49-12 at the half, shot just 17-of-61 (.279) from the field, including 3-of-19 (.158) from long range, in the loss. Ohio Northern finished 43-of-72 (.597) from the floor, including 9-of-21 (.429) from deep. The Polar Bears out rebounded the Pioneers 53-30.
Senior center Adam Rockhold (Olmsted Falls) led Marietta with 12 points and nine rebounds. No other Pioneer reached double figures. Junior Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Northwestern), who had not played in the last three games due to injury, had seven points, while freshman Bradley Hinton (McDonald) added six points and four boards.
Ohio Northern had five players, including four off the bench, finish in double digits. Kyle Myer had a game-high 24 points, shooting 12-of-12 from the floor. Mitch Anderson added 15, Sam Bastian had 12, Kyle Gehle finished with 11 and Ross Stienecker contributed 10 in the win.
Marietta will return home for its next OAC battle, a 7:30 p.m. match-up with Otterbein College on Wednesday (Dec. 5) evening. |
