Two Pioneers named Academic All-OAC in 2007

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) released its 2007 Academic All-OAC football winners Tuesday (Nov. 28) morning, and two Marietta College seniors earned league recognition. Senior Carter Shaver (Trotwood/Waynesville) was one of just four unanimously selected Academic All-OAC, while senior Chad McDaniel (Wooster/Triway) received honorable mention.
Shaver, an Academic All-District first team selection in 2007 and an Academic All-District second team and Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree in 2006, was one of the defensive co-captains in 2007. The outside linebacker, ranked fourth on the squad in total tackles with 67. The three-year letterman has added 3.5 tackles for loss and one sack. He had a career-high 14 tackles at No. 3 Saint Johns in the season opener. In the classroom, the petroleum engineering major carries an impressive 3.87 grade point average. Shaver is also active in the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
McDaniel, a four-year letterman at wide receiver, caught 41 passes for 539 yards, which ranked second on the team in 2007. He averaged 13.1 yards per catch and 53.9 yards per game this fall. The 2007 honorable mention All-OAC recipient and 2006 second team All-OAC honoree finished his career third all-time at Marietta in receptions with 134 catches and receiving yards with 1,830 yards. In the classroom, McDaniel, a 2007 second team Academic All-District selection, maintains a 3.34 grade point average as a marketing major.
Marietta finished the season 3-7 overall and 3-6 in the OAC. The Pioneers played five ranked teams and another that fell out of the Top 25 the week of the game in 2007. Marietta closed the year by winning two of its final three games. Its only loss in that stretch came against No. 1 Mount Union on the final game of the season.
