Marietta's Vrable named NCAA D-III Offensive Player of the Week by the Football Gazette for second time this year
Senior leads Pioneers to victory over Heidelberg

Nov. 2, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio — For the second time this season, Marietta College senior quarterback Jason Vrable (South Park, Pa.) was selected a NCAA Division III Offensive Player of the Week by the Football Gazette.

Vrable, the Pioneers' offensive captain, led his team to a 32-17 victory over Heidelberg Saturday (Oct. 28) night at Don Drumm Stadium. The win improved Marietta's record to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Vrable, one of the nation's top passers, used his legs to give Heidelberg fits early and then his arm to pick the Student Princes apart late. He rushed 12 times for 125 yards and one touchdown and completed 13-of-36 passes for 286 yards and two scores (25, 71), while fighting against wind-gust up to 40 mph.

The senior broke the school's single-season record for completions in the win. He has now completed 167-of-299 passes and thrown for 2,375 yards with 17 touchdowns this season. His career numbers, all of which are school records, include 460 completions on 826 attempts, covering 5,632 yards with 38 touchdowns.

Marietta will look to make it three straight victories when it visits Wilmington Saturday (Nov. 4) for a 1:30 p.m. contest with the Quakers.

All of the action can be heard locally on WMRT-FM 88.3, WMOA-AM 1490 and online, through Stretch Internet, at pioneers.marietta.edu/onlinebroadcasts.

A reminder that Marietta will host a First and Ten luncheon on Monday (Nov. 6) at 12 p.m. in the Trustee's Conference Room of Ban Johnson Arena. Admission is $7 and all are welcome.
