Marietta's Vrable named NCAA D-III Offensive Player of the Week by the Football Gazette
Senior leads Pioneers past B-W in overtime and throws for a career-high 405 yards

Sept. 21, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio — Two days after learning that he was named the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Offensive Player of the Week, senior quarterback Jason Vrable (South Park, Pa.) picked up simi liar honors on a national scale, as he was selected one of two NCAA Division III Offensive Players of the Week by the Football Gazette.

Vrable, the Pioneers' offensive captain, led his team to a thrilling 37-31 overtime victory over Baldwin-Wallace Saturday (Sept. 16) night at Don Drumm Stadium.

The fleet-footed lefty torched the Jacket secondary for a career high 405 yards and four touchdowns. The four touchdowns in a game tied the school record, and Vrable was just five yards shy of matching the school record for passing yards in a game.

Vrable, who finished 24-of-36, threw touchdown passes of 18 yards to senior wide receiver/defensive back Anthony Banks (Colonial Heights, Va./Thomas Dale), 65 yards and four yards to senior wide receiver Jason Curry (Akron/Springfield) and a four-yard pass to senior tight end John Bokat (Carmichaels, Pa./Geibel Catholic) that was the game-winner.

On the year, Vrable has already led two second half comebacks. He has completed 46-of-72 (63.9%) passes for 779 yards and six touchdowns with one interception. He is currently closing in on all four of Marietta's career passing records. Vrable needs 46 completions, 176 attempts, 784 yards and 19 touchdowns to tie the career record in each category.

Marietta will look to move to 3-0 when it visits Otterbein Saturday (Sept. 23) for a 6 p.m. kickoff in Westerville. The Pioneers have not started a year with three straight wins since 1972. The Cardinals will look to bounce back from a 71-14 loss to top-ranked Mount Union.

All of the action can be heard locally on WMRT-FM 88.3 and online, through Stretch Internet, at pioneers.marietta.edu/onlinebroadcasts.

A reminder that Marietta will host a First and Ten luncheon on Monday (Sept. 25) at 12 p.m. in the Trustee's Conference Room of Ban Johnson Arena. Admission is $7 and all are welcome.
