Three Pioneers earn Academic All-OAC honors in football
Jason Price awarded first team recognition

Nov. 29, 2005
TWINSBURG, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) announced the 2005 Football Academic All-OAC winners Tuesday (Nov. 29) afternoon. Marietta College senior offensive lineman Jason Price (Marietta/Fredericktown) earned first team honors, while junior defensive back Lonnie Meyers (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) and junior quarterback Jason Vrable (South Park, Pa.) were given honorable mention.

Price, a captain, is a history major with a 3.40 GPA. The left guard helped anchor a very young offensive line in 2005. Price helped Marietta rush for 1,293 yards and provided solid protection during its three-game winning streak late in the season.

Off the field, Price is an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, as well as the Campus Life & Athletics Committee. He also helped with the National Youth Sports Program and Pioneer youth football camps.

Meyers carries a 3.63 GPA as a sports medicine major. The safety missed a portion of the year with injury, but finished with 24 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble.

In addition to football, Meyers, who was named the OAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month in November, is active in Marietta's Student Athletic Training Organization and is a student athletic trainer for the women's basketball team. He has also helped at the Pioneer youth football camps.

Vrable, also a sports medicine major, has a 3.32 GPA. In 2005, the quarterback set the Pioneers' single-season record for completions (164) and passing yards (1,883). He finished the year 164-of-298 (.550) and threw 12 touchdowns. Vrable also ran for three more scores. The signal caller set the school's single-game passing attempts record with 58 passes in the win over Muskingum on October 22.

In the off season, Vrable can be found with the men's basketball team as their student athletic trainer. He is also a member of Marietta's Student Athletic Training Organization and has helped at the Pioneers' youth football camps.

Overall, Marietta finished 2005 with a record of 5-5 overall, 4-5 in the OAC. It was the second straight non losing season, a feat not accomplished since 1994-96, when the Pioneers had three .500 or better seasons.
