Dec. 2, 2004
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The postseason honors continue to roll in for individuals of the Marietta College football team, after its impressive turn around this season. Senior return specialist Chris Sidick (Cecil, PA/Canon McMillan) was named All-North Region First Team Defense by the Don Hansen's Weekly Football Gazette.
Sidick was the Pioneers' primary kick returner for the fourth straight season in 2004. This season he returned 25 kicks for 534 yards and one TD. He averaged 22.2 yards per return. Sidick, who was already the school's career kickoff return leader after his junior season, became the NCAA DIII's career leader in kick returns (106) and kickoff return yards (2,235) this season.
The 2004 Second Team All-American and Jack Rafeld OAC Player-of-the-Year as a center fielder in baseball also returned 20 punts for 193 yards (9.6 yards per return) in 2004. He became Marietta's first player to earn All-Region honors in football since 1999. He is now eligible for All-American honors.
Sidick, who was also named All-OAC Second Team as a receiver this season, spent times on both sides of the ball in 2004. He was moved to wide receiver in week four, after playing linebacker for the first three games. Sidick caught 25 passes for 256 yards (10.2 yards per catch) and one TD in his seven games on offense. He also carried the ball 24 times for 197 yards and three TD. On defense Sidick collected 22 tackles, three for a loss, and had two sacks and one interception.
The Pioneers finished in a tie for fifth in the OAC with an overall record of 6-4 (5-4 OAC). It was MC's first winning season since 1998, when they also went 6-4. |
