MC's Banks named OAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week

Nov. 8, 2004
TWINSBURG, Ohio - The Ohio Athletic Conference announced today (Nov. 8) that Marietta College sophomore Anthony Banks (Colonial Heights, VA) was named the OAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week.

Banks, the Pioneers' strong safety. had two interceptions in Marietta's 26-0 win over No. 20 Baldwin-Wallace Saturday (Nov. 6) afternoon at Don Drumm Stadium. His third quarter interception was returned 57 yards for a TD to put MC ahead 23-0. His second pick came late in the fourth frame and was returned to 39 yards to the B-W 21, stalling another Yellow Jacket drive.

The sophomore tallied seven tackles, including five solo stops in the win, the first over B-W since 1996. Marietta's last shutout also came in 1996.

The Pioneers (6-3, 5-3 OAC) will look to close out the season with a win over second-place Ohio Northern Saturday (Nov. 13) at 1 p.m. in Ada, Ohio. A win over the Polar Bears, who are ranked No. 15 in this week's d3football.com poll, would give Marietta a share of second place in the OAC.
